Centre for Egypt-Africa

 

The Egypt/Africa Centre was established by Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ»ÆÆ¬ in December 2014. It was inaugurated by the Honourable Catherine Samba-Panza, President of the Central African Republic, who graciously accepted the role of Honorary President of the Centre.

The Egypt/Africa Centre is an independent think tank specialising in African affairs. Its primary aim is to enhance and strengthen relations between Egypt and other African sister countries, while also promoting a deeper understanding of the key geopolitical and developmental challenges and opportunities across the African continent. The Centre is committed to generating a forward-looking vision for the region’s growth and prosperity.

The Centre was founded by Ambassador Mona Omar, former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs. Ambassador Aly El-Hefny assumed his role as Chairman of the Centre on 12 February 2018.

 

Vision

The Centre looks forward to collaborating with the Egyptian government, the business sector, and African countries and their embassies in Cairo to advance the mutual interests of both sides.

 

Mission

The Centre looks forward to assisting and cooperating with all other African countries, the business sector, and think tanks worldwide that specialise in African affairs, with the shared goal of creating a peaceful, prosperous, and developed continent for all.

 

Objectives

- Enhance the strength of Egypt’s soft power across the African continent.

- Provide strategic insights and practical solutions aimed at strengthening political and economic relations between Egypt and other African countries.

- Advance and safeguard Egypt’s national interests in Africa through informed dialogue, research, and collaboration.

 

The Mechanisms:

- The Centre supports the Egyptian Government by providing policy guidance that assists senior officials in making well-informed decisions regarding other African countries.

- The Centre provides Egyptian businessmen interested in Africa with access to a comprehensive database of investment and trade opportunities across other African countries.

- The Centre organises workshops, forums, local and international conferences, seminars, roundtable discussions, and group dialogues on significant events and emerging issues across the African continent.

- The Centre aims to deepen awareness and understanding of African issues, interests, challenges, and the dynamics of Egyptian–African relations within Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ»ÆÆ¬.

 

Events And Activities

- The Centre contributed to organising the visit of the President of the Central African Republic to Egypt in December 2014.

- The Centre organised the “Parliamentarian Women in Africa and the Arab World” Conference at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, in the presence of the President of the Arab Parliament, to promote Arab African cooperation in the parliamentary field.

- The Centre organised a cultural event showcasing the South African documentary Nelson Mandela in Cairo at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ»ÆÆ¬, attended by members of the film’s cast and numerous African ambassadors in Egypt, led by the South African Ambassador.

- The Centre initiated a series of visits to Egyptian industrial cities for African ambassadors accredited to Egypt, beginning with the 10th of Ramadan Industrial City.

- The Centre supported several African countries particularly Ethiopia, Guinea, and Nigeria in securing scholarships at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ»ÆÆ¬.

- The Centre organised a conference to inform Egyptian businessmen of the benefits arising from the African Economic Blocs’ Summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh.

- The Centre collaborates with the Cairo Centre for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping in Africa in the field of training African troops.

- The Centre organised a conference entitled “Egypt in the African Heart”, which aimed to foster a meaningful partnership between Egyptian businessmen and their counterparts across the African continent. The conference sought to open new horizons for strengthening Egypt’s presence in Africa and to establish collaborative relationships across various sectors among all African states. It also served as a platform for showcasing successful initiatives and experiences from across the continent.
