BAEPS Celebrating Women–Our Very Own Alumnae
News
On Sunday, Feb. 27th, 2022, the Outreach and Alumni Team organised an Alumni event inviting three of the BAEPS graduates to give a talk on their journey after graduation:
• Haidy Hashish, Political Science Alumna’10, Sr. Regional Marketing Project Manager at Snap Inc.
• Mayar Abdelazim, Economics Alumna’11, FX Sales and Business Development Officer at CIB Treasury Group
• Sarah Ibrahim, Business Administration Alumna’12, Regional Purchasing Manager Plastic Bottles & On-site Blowing at Henkel.
This event is planned in an effort to maintain a lively Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ community that includes the students, staff and alumni by hosting its outstanding alumni from all around the globe. In the spirit of the Women’s International day, and as the world celebrates the achievements of the women all over the world, the event hosted three women alumnae to share their success stories and impressive journeys. The event took place online and students who were on campus, were able to attend the online session in a classroom.
Our Faculty Outreach Coordinator, Mr. Omar Aboubaker, held the opening remarks stressing on the importance of maintaining an active and lively Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ community. Mr. Omar then introduced the speakers with a brief bio and their professional accomplishments. Prof. Hadia Fakherldin, Vice Dean for Teaching and Learning, welcomed the three graduates and asked them to share their journey from students at the BAEPS faculty to their current jobs, describing their career development and reflecting on how their programmes prepared them for the job market. They especially emphasised on the critical importance of the presentation, research and analytical skills in their professional journey and stressed the importance of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ»ÆƬ’s philosophy of “Learning how to think, not what to think”.
Ms. Haidy and Ms. Mayar advised the students and alumni to monitor the skills frequented in job opportunities by employers, stating that such focus reflects a market demand for these skills. Developing and integrating these skills in one’s skillset provides applicants with a competitive edge. Ms. Sarah also remarked that taking on new roles is important in order to stay relevant which necessitates a level of flexibility in learning and in developing skills. The discussion was then followed by a Q&A session moderated by Ms. Jasmin Makhlouf, Assistant Lecturer and BAEPS Alumna’16 where attendees raised questions to the speakers.
At the end of the Q&A session, Prof. Hadia gave closing remarks, thanking the speakers for sharing their journey and contribution. Additionally, Prof. Hadia affirmed the commitment of the Faculty to enhance the skillset of the students through a portfolio of technical, soft and practical skills; and therefore the programmes are routinely revised to optimise the engagement and inclusion of students to enrich their educational experience and their future employability.
