THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF BUSINESS, ECONOMICS AND POLITICS IN THE MIDDLE EAST – 2024

Aims and Scope

The conference aims to explore current Middle Eastern business, economic, and political concerns. It aims to encourage interdisciplinary research and discussions about the region's challenges and opportunities in areas such as new technology, security, and sustainability.
The scope is to create a venue for intellectual conversation between local and foreign specialists, promoting a better understanding of Middle Eastern socioeconomic and political processes.

The Conference

The Middle East is a “hotspot” where security-related issues, migration, and refugee crises, as well as the effects of climate change, are more pronounced than in other regions of the world. Similarly, the region presents both challenges and opportunities in areas such as governance, sustainability, and digitalization.

We believe there is a need for a more balanced approach to research on the Middle East, incorporating both international perspectives and local, homegrown knowledge from within the region itself. Recent developments have reinforced the Middle Easts’ status as a focal point for security concerns, migration, refugees, and climate change, while also highlighting its ongoing struggles to adapt to artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. The aim of this year’s conference is to maintain and deepen the focus on studying this region, encouraging interdisciplinary perspectives ranging from business and economics to political science.

The Faculty of Business Administration, Economics, and Political Science (BAEPS) at the British University in Egypt is delighted to host its annual conference, with a vision to enrich the academic and practitioner community through a wide range of research topics about the Middle East. This year's conference is co-organized in collaboration with the UK's London South Bank University (LSBU), Harper Adams University’s Department of Food, Land, and Agribusiness Management (FLAM); Greece's Harokopio University’s Department of Economics and Sustainable Development; and Hungary's Ludovika University of Public Service (LUPS), Faculty of Public Governance and International Studies. The International Network for Economic Research (INFER) also supports the conference.
